People often wonder what year round staff do during the year when camp is over. Getting ready for next summer is usually the answer. During the fall and winter months staff spend time planning, preparing and evaluating what worked this year at camp and putting the plans in place to make the next summer the best yet.
Planning for next year
In the camp community it is what Marla Coleman of Coleman camps referred to recently as
“10-for-2” She says “It often feels like we live 10 months for 2 months! Campers. Staff. Directors. (And dare we say parents, too?).” As Marla quite rightly mentions, planning for summer 2014 is not something exclusive to Camp Directors it is something many camper parents also like to get a head start on. Camps all across the country launch their early registration rates in the Fall and parents often race to take advantage of securing their child’s spot early and in doing so guarantee themselves the best rates available. Early registration at most camps always offers parents the biggest discount on camp tuition and prudent parents will enjoy the best savings. When they commit to camp early, parents also have the opportunity to spread the cost of camp over a longer period of time. Payment Plans spread out over 9 -12 months help to make camp more affordable for many families.
Keeping the Magic of Camp Alive all year
Camp is such a magical and life changing experience for many kids and staff that we need to find ways to keep the benefits and lessons learned going throughout the year. Marla sums it up best by saying:
“Celebrating recent successes, staying connected with camp friends, having tangible remembrances all help to realign a galaxy that encompasses new stars in our personal constellation, helping to light the path to happiness and success. Camp, after all, is the compass that points true north. No wonder we are so passionate about it.”
Remember, camp will be here soon!
