Cooking with Kids – Campfire Pizza Mummies

One of the best things children get to experience at camp each summer is outdoor cooking. But even though it is October the fun doesn’t have to end. Halloween is just around the corner so we thought we’d pass on a great recipe for a campfire snack with a spooky twist! Campers of all ages can help cook up this great Halloween treat by layering on toppings and using their creative skills to make these tasty pizzas even more fun to eat.

 English muffins
 Pizza sauce
 Cheese sticks or slices
 Black olives
 Red or green pepper

Directions:

1. Have an adult get the fire going on an outdoor BBQ pit to have it ready for the Pizza Mummies.

2. Spread a tablespoon of pizza sauce onto half of an English muffin.

3. Set olive slices in place for eyes and add round slices of green onion or bits of red or green pepper for pupils.

4. Lay strips of cheese across the muffin for the mummy’s wrappings.

5. Wrap your creation in foil and set it over the fire until the cheese is melted and the muffin is toasty. Enjoy!

Kids can also vary their Halloween pizza creations depending on their preferences. You can substitute olives with small pepperoni slices, or use sun-dried tomatoes and bell pepper slices to give your mummy a spooky face!
