contracts with Laidlaw Educational Services to provide buses with
professionally trained drivers for ALL transportation to and from camp.
Transportation at Roughing It is provided at no extra charge.

Roughing It buses are driven by professionals bus drivers who drive school
buses full-time for school districts. They have year round experience driving
large vehicles and, equally important, know how to safely handle emergency
situations. As school bus drivers, this is not just a summer job for them: they

Buses - The Safest Form of Transportation!
Roughing It leases small Type II buses (20 passenger), all of which are equipped
with seatbelts. These buses are
maintained and operated by Laidlaw
Educational Services, the premier school bus transportation company in the
country. The bus company and buses are certified and inspected annually by the
California Highway Patrol, Department of Motor Vehicles and Public Utilities

Bus Captains & Additional Supervision
All school buses have a Roughing It adult counselor assigned as a Bus Captain to
provide additional camper supervision and to carry out our traditional bus
spirit activities for the campers during the ride to and from camp. All Roughing
It Bus Captains are in constant communication with the Roughing It office by
Nextel/radio. If for some reason a bus is delayed because of traffic or
construction, we do our best to contact all parents in advance with
an estimated time of arrival.
