Today the Outdoor Explorers built shelters out of tarps and rope.  Most campers had used tents before but this was a new experience that they really excelled at.  Campers showed great teamwork and communication skills.  They worked together to secure the ropes to the trees and bring the tarps up

A drizzly, dreary morning turned into a fabulous day for exploring.  The Outdoor Explorers had many adventures today–going on hikes, practicing their fishing knots and casting, using teamwork to build a shelter, and being creative with different craft projects.

We had a great outback day today.  Again, it was a warm one and campers used many strategies to stay cool!  Outback Day is a day were campers choose two different choices to participate in for a longer period.  Instead of 40 minutes, campers have 2 hours to really delve into

The last two days have been quite warm and today was a “beat the heat day” for sure!  Campers were able to stay cool and have fun at the same time as we spent more time playing games in the shade, took extra water breaks, and had some spray water

Our final day of camp ended with a bang!  The Outdoor Olympics were a huge success as campers showed off the skills they developed over the week.  Campers participated in a fishing knot tying challenge, a multi-sport relay, and a claytionary activity.  After the Olymic challenges, the campers got to

An exciting choice activity that has happened this week in Outdoor Explorers was making hemp bracelets.  We used natural twine and beads to make awesome jewelery.  All week we have been learning new skills to bring to our arts and crafts activities.

Today the Outdoor Explorers embarked on a compass scavenger hunt.  Each camper learned the basic skills and then helped navigate their team through the course.  Everybody who participate in this choice activity completed it successfully and had a great time!

We had a great first day of camp!  Our groups, the Nice and Fabulously Shiny Ravioli Pizza Trees (Kate’s group) and the Courageous Crawdads (Calder’s group), jumped right into the flow of camp.  Campers learned the rules and got participated in different group activities such as sports, crafts, and outdoor living skills. 

We had a choice group yesterday that did some outdoor cooking.  Campers learned about different types of fires that could be built and proceeded to construct an awesome ‘log cabin’ structure.  Campers shredded cheese and we made pita pizzas.  The log cabin structure burned well, cooking not just our pizzas, but extras

The Outdoor Explorers have had an opportunity to learn some outdoor living skills during choice this week.  Campers have loved the orienteering scavenger hunt activity.  All of the campers in this choice group mastered the art of navigating with a compass and finding their way simply by using coordinates.  We have many more fun

Outdoor Explorer crafts choice activities are going splendidly.  So far the favorite craft is friendship bracelets, and we have also enjoyed making nature mosaics and memory books.  Whether the campers are experts or beginners, everyone is helping eachother improve their skills.

This week Outdoor Explorer campers have had the chance to go on an animal tracking hike!  On this hike up the rim trail, campers found all sorts of tracks, including deer, coyote, and turkey tracks.  We even found a turkey feather to prove it!  We’re looking forward to more adventures
