Maria Halter

Assistant Program Director, 2nd Year Staff Member
Georgetown University

This is Maria’s second summer with us here at Roughing It! She will be stepping into a new role as our Assistant Program Director. She has just finished her second year at Georgetown University, where she has gotten very involved in many clubs and activities. She has plentiful summer camp experience, including a sleepaway camp in Arizona where she is originally from. She is great with kids and has a passion for helping those around her, making her a great member of our team! 

Isabella Wire

Arts & Crafts Counselor, 2nd Year Staff Member
George Washington University- Computer Science & Finance

We’re thrilled to have Isabella joining us for her first summer at Roughing It as our Crafts Counselor! She’s a double major in Computer Science and Finance at The George Washington University in Washington, DC. Isabella grew up loving summer camp and is excited to bring that same joy and creativity to our campers this year. She’s taken part in all kinds of art classes and camps over the years—pottery, painting, collaging, drawing, printing, and sewing—so there’s no shortage of fun projects ahead! When she’s not crafting, Isabella loves performing arts, traveling, cooking, reading. We are excited for Isabella to share crafts with campers this summer!

Kat Biggar

Environment Counselor, 2nd Year Staff Member
Tufts University- Psychology & Env Studies

Kat is joining us for her second year at Roughing It as our Environment Counselor! She has extensive summer camp experience and enjoys annual backpacking trips with her father. She is currently at Tufts University and is studying Psychology and Environmental Studies as  a double major. She enjoys creative writing, especially poetry, and is excited to share her creativity and love for anything outdoors to the reservoir!

Ben Hoopes

Sports Counselor, 2nd Year Staff Member
Oregon State University

Ben is back for his second summer at Roughing It as our Sports Counselor! He’s currently studying Psychology at Oregon State University and dreams of becoming a firefighter one day. Ben’s enthusiasm and dedication make him a great role model on and off the field, and he’s excited to help campers stay active, have fun, and build teamwork this summer!

Alex King-Evans

Adventure Counselor & Assistant Unit Leader, 4th Year Staff Member
UCSD- Data Science

Alex is coming back for his 17th summer at Roughing It! He was a camper (incl. a CILT & JC) for 12 years before joining our staff two years ago. He did an incredible job as the B23 Group Counselor, Waterfront Director and JHB counselor here at Roughing It.  We’re excited to have him back this summer as one of our Assistant Unit Leader and Adventure Counselor! Alex transferred from Diablo Valley College to UC San Diego with a major in data science, and just finished his second year in San Diego.

Ryley Ramsey

Outdoor Cooking, 1st Year Staff Member
Sonoma State- Biology

Ryley is joining us for their first summer at Roughing It as our Outdoor Cooking Counselor! A second-year Biology major at Sonoma State University, Ryley loves exploring the outdoors—whether it’s rock climbing, hiking the trails of Sonoma County, or relaxing by the coast. Ryley is passionate about creating joyful, meaningful experiences for campers and can’t wait to share the fun of outdoor cooking this summer!

Mia Bracco

Outdoors Counselor, 2nd Year Staff Member
DVC

Mia is returning to Roughing It for her second summer as our Outdoors Counselor! She just finished her first year of college at DVC, and spent her time writing for the newspaper and completing law review. She has done a 26 –day backpacking trip in Death Valley and had the opportunity to learn Wilderness Safety. Mia has grown up playing a variety of sports, including soccer, lacrosse, ski team, and tennis. She is thrilled to be sharing the outdoors with campers this summer!
