Arik Nashan

Waterfront Director, 2nd Year Staff Member
Texas A&M- History

Arik is back for his second summer at Roughing It and is stepping into the role of Waterfront Director! He’s graduated from Texas A&M with a degree in History and has big plans ahead—he’ll be starting law school in Fall 2025. Last summer, Arik interned with the Judge Advocate General Corps at Fort Bragg with the 82nd Airborne, and this summer he’s also interning with Federal Judge Mark T. Pittman. Arik is excited to return to camp in a new role and can’t wait to help campers learn how to row, canoe, kayak, and fish!

JD Sellman

Assistant Waterfront Director, 1st Year Staff Member
American University- Political Science

We’re excited to welcome JD to the Roughing It team as our Assistant Waterfront Director! JD is currently studying Political Science at American University and brings with him a strong background in leadership, sports, and the outdoors. A black belt in Taekwondo, JD has also played baseball, soccer, tennis, and rugby, and recently started training in Muay Thai and jiu-jitsu. Before college, he was active in Scouting and served as the Senior Patrol Leader of his troop. In his free time, JD enjoys backpacking, drawing, and learning the harmonica. He’s excited to share his energy, dedication, and love for the outdoors with campers this summer!

Justina Kane

Waterfront Counselor, 1st Year Staff Member

Justina is joining Roughing It for her first summer as a Waterfront Counselor! She loves being outdoors—whether it’s hiking, swimming, or kayaking—and brings experience working with kids both in the classroom and through outdoor programs. She’s completed sea kayaking and whitewater rafting trips with NOLS and has co-led multi-day backpacking adventures in Joshua Tree. Justina is excited to help campers feel included, try new things, and make the most of their time at the waterfront!

Jack Cramer

Waterfront Counselor, 1st Year Staff Member

University of Washington- Political Science and Philosophy

Jack is joining Roughing It for his first summer as a Waterfront Counselor! He’s studying Political Science and Philosophy at the University of Washington and brings a strong background in rowing, kayaking, canoeing, and paddleboarding. Jack rowed competitively in high school and is passionate about building community through shared outdoor experiences. An avid backpacker and nature lover, he also values leave-no-trace principles and enjoys teaching outdoor skills. Jack is excited to help campers connect, learn, and have fun on the water this summer!

Joseph Tarkoff

Waterfront Counselor, 1st Year Staff Member

Ohio Wesleyan University- Psychology

Joseph is joining Roughing It for his first summer as a Waterfront Counselor! He’s a Psychology major at Ohio Wesleyan University and an Eagle Scout with extensive experience in kayaking, fishing, and outdoor activities. He’s led overnight trips, taught water skills, and worked as a summer camp counselor supervising group water activities. Joseph loves meeting new people and is excited to help campers have a fun and memorable time on the reservoir!

Dylan Potter

Fishing Counselor, 1st Year Staff Member
University of Nevada- Hydrogeology

Dylan is joining Roughing It for his first summer as our Fishing Counselor at the Waterfront! He’s studying Hydrogeology at the University of Nevada and brings years of outdoor experience from Scouts. Dylan loves fishing—one of his biggest hobbies—and enjoys sharing his passion for the outdoors with others. He’s confident teaching fishing and eager to help campers learn kayaking, canoeing, and rowing too. Dylan is excited to make the waterfront a fun and educational place for everyone this summer!

Emma Cusimano

Fishing Counselor, 1st Year Staff Member
UC Berkeley- Molecular Env Biology

Emma is joining Roughing It for her first summer as a Fishing Counselor at the Waterfront! She’s a Molecular Environmental Biology major at UC Berkeley and grew up in Park City, Utah, where she developed a love for the outdoors. Emma has experience with fly fishing, spin casting, rowing, kayaking, canoeing, and even rafting on the Salmon River. She’s passionate about nature and enjoys teaching others about the environment through her work with UC Berkeley’s Surfrider Club. Emma is excited to share her love for the outdoors and help campers enjoy everything the waterfront has to offer!
