Meet Our Unit Two Counselors and Staff
Sam Anderson
Unit Leader, 5th Year Staff Member
University of Colorado Boulder — Journalism, minor in Political Science
Sam was back for his fifth summer at Roughing It! He started in 2015 as our Outdoors counselor and did a great job stepping up to the group counselor role when we needed it. The next summer he came back as the B1 group counselor and did an amazing job! In 2017 he joined our Admin staff as the Unit 1 Leader and was a great role model for staff and campers with his high energy and camp spirit. Sam graduated from the University of Colorado, Boulder with a degree in Journalism with a minor in Political Science. He loved being back at camp this summer as our Unit Leader again! Thanks for all your hard work, Sam!
Alex Sanchez
JHB Counselor, 2nd Year Staff Member
Cal Poly San Luis Obispo — Environmental Management and Protection
We were so excited and lucky to have Alex back as our JHB Group Counselor this summer. He did an amazing job his first summer and we knew he would continue to do so. He is a great counselor for those older campers as he is a fantastic role model and is great at encouraging his campers to try new things and express themselves. Alex grew up playing boy’s basketball and running Cross Country. He has recently picked up rock climbing and is really enjoying it! Alex is really excited as he is transferring to Cal Poly San Luis Obispo studying Environmental Management and Protection!
Olivia Theut
G56 Group Counselor, 2nd Year Staff Member
Gonzaga University — Criminal and Sociology
It was so amazing having Olivia back this summer! She was previously an amazing Riding Counselor but this summer she switched to the Reservoir to be our G56 Group Counselor! Not only was she on staff before but she also spent many summers at Roughing It’s Horse Day Camp as a camper. She loves being active and outdoors especially when there are horses involved. Olivia made an amazing counselor as a fantastic role model with a fun energy and caring attitude. She helped encourage her campers to try new things as well as make new friends and express themselves. Olivia attends Gonzaga University where she is studying Criminology and Sociology in pursuit of Juvenile Justice. In her free time, she also plays club volleyball for her school’s women’s club team!
Bernard Adri
B5 Group Counselor, 1st Year Staff Member
University of Arizona — Criminal Justice
It was amazing to have former camper Bernard Adri as our B5 group counselor at Roughing It this summer! Bernard attended Roughing It for over 5 years and was such an amazing camper we were so excited to have him on staff this summer. He really loves camp and was excited to help his campers have a great time here just like he did! Bernard currently attends the University of Arizona studying Criminal Justice.
Kelia Lomeli
G4 Counselor / 1st Year Staff Member
UC Santa Barbara — Political Science
We were so excited to have Kelia join our staff this summer as the G4 Group Counselor! Kelia spent many years as a Girl Scout and Sea Scout giving her lots of camp experience from crafts to amazing camp songs. She is very caring and patient and as expected she made an amazing counselor for her group of girls. Her group was always having fun, laughing, and singing new songs every day at camp. Kelia is currently studying Political Science at UC Santa Barbara!
Tyler Soria
B4 Group Counselor, 1nd Year Staff Member
Arizona State University — Business
Tyler joined us this summer as our B4 Group Counselor. He has lots of childcare and summer camp experience and was excited to be part of our camp community. He really strived for his campers to try new things, make friends, and have a good time. Tyler has always been very active having played many sports while growing up. He loves trying new things and encouraging others to do the same. He recently has taken more interest in both photography and health/fitness. Tyler currently attends Arizona State University studying Business.
Sofi Lafetra-Thompson
JHG Group Counselor, 1st Year Staff Member
University of Puget Sound — Education
It was so great to welcome Sofi to our staff this summer! Sofi joined us as the JHG Group Counselor and we knew she would make a fantastic counselor for that older group. She has a lot of childcare experience in babysitting and camp settings and loves working with kids. She was also a camper at Roughing It! Sofi is studying Education at the University of Puget Sound.
Manny Kahne
B6 Group Counselor, 1st Year Staff Member
Colorado College
It was so great to have Manny join our staff this summer as the B6 group counselor! Manny has lots of outdoor experience with his passion for rock climbing, hiking, backpacking, and playing sports. He enjoyed sharing his experience and passion for the outdoors with the campers and hopes he inspired them to challenge themselves in the outdoors. He has past experience coaching youth rock climbing teams as well as working at similar outdoor-based camps. Manny is looking forward to starting at Colorado College in the Fall!
