Meet Our Unit One Counselors and Staff

Sam Anderson

Unit Leader, 5th Year Staff Member
University of Colorado Boulder — Journalism, minor in Political Science

Sam was back for his fifth summer at Roughing It! He started in 2015 as our Outdoors counselor and did a great job stepping up to the group counselor role when we needed it. The next summer he came back as the B1 group counselor and did an amazing job! In 2017 he joined our Admin staff as the Unit 1 Leader and was a great role model for staff and campers with his high energy and camp spirit. Sam graduated from the University of Colorado, Boulder with a degree in Journalism with a minor in Political Science. He loved being back at camp this summer as our Unit Leader again! Thanks for all your hard work, Sam!

Romeo Vides

B1 Group Counselor, 2nd Year Staff Member 
Goucher College – Biology

We were so lucky and excited to have Romeo back this summer! This was Romeo’s second year on our staff however it was the tenth summer total he has been at Roughing It! He started as a B5/6 camper and participated in both the CILT and JC leadership programs where he did an amazing job. He’s very patient and encouraging with his campers and is also great at helping campers try new, fun camp activities! He’s a terrific bus spirit leader always encouraging his bus and bringing high energy and a great camp spirit. Romeo is currently attending Goucher College studying Biology. Recently he has enjoyed spending time in Baltimore city getting into photography and spending time with friends.

Abby Post

K Group Counselor, 2nd Year Staff Member
Skidmore College – Health and Human Physiology

We were so excited to have Abby back this summer as the K Group Counselor! Abby had been a camper for 12 years with two of those years as a Junior Counselor. She was always a model camper and we were happy and excited when she finally joined staff a few years ago. She was a Riding Counselor previously and this year transitioned back to the Reservoir into the Group Counselor role. In addition to being a Roughing It veteran, Abby loves riding horses and spending time with friends. She was excited to step into the Group Counselor role and to make an impact on the campers. She has so many great memories over the years she wanted to help her campers have a safe and fun time and make similar great memories! Abby absolutely went above and beyond and made an incredible counselor for our young campers and truly helped them have a fantastic time at Roughing It this summer. Abby currently attends Skidmore College studying Health and Human Physiology in pursuit of Physical Therapy.

Kelly Baxter

G2 Group Counselor / 1st Year Staff Member
Arizona State University — Kinesiology

We were so excited to have Kelly join our staff this summer after all these years of her attending Roughing It. She’s been a camper for over 10 years and always brought smiles and fun with her every summer. Kelly went through our CILT and JC program and excelled in every way.  This summer she was the G2 group counselor and as expected she did an incredible job. Her camp spirit is unmatched with her experience and knowledge of the camp songs, stories, and activities. Her group always had camp spirit, high energy, and lots of laughs. Kelly currently attends Arizona State University studying Kinesiology. 

Alex King Evans

B23 Group Counselor, 1st Year Staff Member
Diablo Valley College – Mechanical Engineering

We were so excited to finally welcome Alex to staff this summer! Alex is a long-time camper having attended Roughing It for over 10 years! He excelled in our CILT and JC programs and, as expected, made an incredible group counselor. This summer Alex was the B23 Group Counselor and proved to be the caring and patient counselor we knew he would be. He enjoys being outdoors playing sports such as soccer and cricket for many years. He plans to attend Diablo Valley College then transfer and finish his Bachelor’s Degree at a university pursuing Mechanical Engineering.

Emma Motoyama

Assistant Group Counselor, 1st Year Staff Member
UC Davis — Engineering

Emma joined us as an Assistant Group Counselor this summer and we were so excited to have her. She was a former camper here at Roughing It and her great camp spirit and fun attitude always shined! She really enjoys nature and the outdoors while living an active lifestyle. She was excited to jump from being a camper to being a counselor and to help the campers have a great time at camp like she did! Emma plans on attending UC Davis this Fall studying Engineering!

Tina Albrezzi

KP Group Counselor,  1st Year Staff Member
CSU Chico — Communication Sciences & Disorders

We are so happy to have had Tina Albrezzi as the KP group counselor this summer! She loves working with children and really provided a nurturing and safe group environment for her campers. Tina has a fun energy and great camp spirit that she brought to camp every single day. She recently graduated from CSU Chico studying Communication Sciences and Disorders in pursuit of Speech Language Pathology!

Selena Cahill

Assistant Group Counselor, 1st Year Staff Member
Diablo Valley College

We were so excited to have Selena join our staff this summer as an Assistant Counselor for our KP group! She is very adventurous and loves experiencing new things and working with children. Selena has attended a few summer camps in the past but this was her first time at Roughing. She brought so much fun and caring energy to her group every day. She’s starting at Diablo Valley College in the Fall and is also really excited about that!

Lexi Sanchez

G1 Group Counselor, 1st Year Staff Member
Colorado State University — Biology

We were so excited to have Lexi as our G1 Group Counselor this summer and we knew she would do an amazing job. She has lots of summer camp experience and was really excited to work at Roughing It this summer. She made an amazing counselor with her fun energy and great camp spirit. She made a fun and comfortable environment for her campers where they could laugh, have fun, and make new friends! Lexi played soccer since she was eight years old as well as other sports such as cross country, lacrosse, track, and rugby. Lexi attends Colorado State University studying Biology in pursuit of becoming a veterinarian!

Justin Xiao

B12 Group Counselor, 1st Year Staff Member
UC Santa Barbara — Electrical Engineering

This summer Justin joined our staff as the B12 Group Counselor! He loved attending summer camp as a kid and still remembers the great friendships, fun activities, and encouraging counselors he had. He did a great job at helping his campers have fun camp experiences this summer! Recently, he was teaching a small group of budding musicians and creative writers and enjoyed teaching and spending time with them. In his free time, Justin likes to make art (sketching, inks, painting), listen to music, and spend time with friends. He is looking forward to starting school at UC Santa Barbara studying Electrical Engineering!

Jade Safran

G34 Group Counselor, 1st Year Staff Member
Diablo Valley College

Jade joined us as the G34 Group Counselor and really did an amazing job. She is a fun, adventurous, and caring person with a passion for childcare with experience at daycare centers. She really helped her group have a fun time by helping create a safe environment where they could express themselves and make life-long friendships! Jade currently attends Diablo Valley College with plans to transfer to UC Davis in pursuit of one day working with NASA!

Caitlin Smith

Assistant Group Counselor, 1st Year Staff Member
UC Santa Cruz — Computer Science

We were so excited to have Caitlin join our staff this summer! She spent many summers going to summer camps and participating in their Junior Counselor programs similar to ours. She enjoys photography, nature, and working with kids. She did a fantastic job with any group of campers she worked with helping them have fun and make amazing memories while at camp! In the Fall, Caitlin is looking forward to attending UC Santa Cruz to study Computer Science!

Lily Keville

G12 Group Counselor, 1st Year Staff Member
Pitzer College — Environmental Analysis

Lily made such an amazing addition to our staff this summer! Lily joined us as the G12 Group Counselor and we were so excited to have her. She loves being outdoors hiking, exploring, playing sports, and enjoying nature in general. She has played lacrosse since third grade and also has experience coaching and refing the sport as well. Lily has a fun and bright energy that positively affected her camper group every day. She is very caring and empathetic and made a fantastic group counselor. Lily attends Pitzer College where she is studying Environmental Analysis as well as playing lacrosse!

Mila Molina

Assistant Group Counselor, 1st Year Staff Member
University of Oregon — Human Physiology

It was so great to have Mila as an Assistant Group Counselor this summer! Mila has lots of camp experience from her time in the Girl Scouts as well as a lot of childcare experience. She was really looking forward to making an impact on the campers and helping them to have a fun, safe, and comfortable environment. She made a great impact on the groups she worked with and really helped keep the campers safe as well as helping them have a fun time.  Mila deferred her freshman year at the University of Oregon to join the US Army Reserves. She is now studying Human Physiology at the University of Oregon and recently began a work-study position at Red Cross alongside the PAVE program which helps transition veterans to school life.
