Meet our Admin Leadership Team
Sam Anderson
Unit Leader, 5th Year Staff Member
University of Colorado Boulder — Journalism, minor in Political Science
Sam was back for his fifth summer at Roughing It! He started in 2015 as our Outdoors counselor and did a great job stepping up to the group counselor role when we needed it. The next summer he came back as the B1 group counselor and did an amazing job! In 2017 he joined our Admin staff as the Unit 1 Leader and was a great role model for staff and campers with his high energy and camp spirit. Sam graduated from the University of Colorado, Boulder with a degree in Journalism with a minor in Political Science. He loved being back at camp this summer as our Unit Leader again! Thanks for all your hard work, Sam!
Danni McDonagh
Assistant Program Director, 4th Year Staff Member
Baylor Law School
This year was Danni’s fourth year on staff here at Roughing It but before that she was part of our Junior Counselor program for a year. We were really excited for her to return to our Admin staff for the amazing work she does. In previous summers she was the G3 Group Counselor and did such an amazing job. Her high energy and camp spirit really reflected on her camper group and other staff members as well. She graduated from the University of San Diego with a major in Political Science and a minor in English and now currently attends Baylor Law School! Congratulations Danni, and thanks for all your hard work this summer!
Linden Moore
Assistant Program Director, 2rd Year Staff Member
Utah State University — Elementary Education
A former camper, Linden couldn’t wait to be back this summer! We were so excited to have her join our Admin Staff as the Assistant Program Director as we knew she would do an amazing job. Having just graduated with a Masters from NYU and about to start a PhD in Auckland, New Zealand, she couldn’t wait to be outside with everyone. She returns after being a camper for 13 years and a previous time as a staff member at the riding site. Her hard work every day really helped the different Reservoir programs run smoothly and helped our campers enjoy these activities to the fullest!
Jeffrey Witney
Waterfront Director, 3rd Year Staff Member
Carleton College — Linguistics
We were so lucky and excited to have Jeffrey come back to camp this summer! This was Jeffrey’s third summer on staff here at Roughing It but his seventh year total! Before joining staff he was a camper for four years including one year as a Junior Counselor. He has previously been a part of our swim staff where he did an amazing job as well as the Waterfront Assistant Director & Kayaking Counselor. This summer Jeffrey stepped into the Waterfront Director role and did an incredible job. His leadership and supervision helped the waterfront program excel and overall ensure the campers had a safe and fun time while out on the water. Jeffrey is studying at Carleton College majoring in Linguistics. He is passionate about baseball and has played for a lot of his life. He currently plays for the Carleton baseball team.
John Brittingham
Assistant Waterfront Director / Fishing Counselor, 1st Year Staff Member
Saint Mary’s College — Business Administration Data Analysis
It was great having John as our Assistant Waterfront Director & Fishing counselor this summer! John has extensive outdoor experience especially when it comes to fishing. He has loved fishing since he was young and has become a very proficient fisherman! He’s currently the president of the Saint Mary’s College Fishing Club and one of his goals there is to involve youth. John loves working with kids and sees himself one day perhaps becoming a teacher. He was excited to work at Roughing It this summer and to help the campers be safe on the waterfront as well as fall in love with fishing! He really made the dock a fun and safe place to learn about fishing for all the campers. John attends Saint Mary’s College studying Business Administration Data Analysis.
Jenna Olson
Swim Director, 4th Year Staff Member
Diablo Valley College — Computer Science
We were so lucky to have Jenna back at Roughing It for her fourth summer! In past summers Jenna has done an amazing job as a swim counselor and the Assistant Swim Director and we were so excited to have her back. She stepped up this summer into the Swim Director position and she did such an amazing job. Thanks to her hard work and great mentorship and supervision she really led the swim program to being smooth and successful. Jenna is currently studying Computer Science at Diablo Valley College. She loves being outdoors and spending time with family.
Rio Nickerson
Assistant Swim Director, 2nd Year Staff Member
Cal State University East Bay — Music Education
Rio is back! This summer Rio joined the Swim Staff and our Admin Staff as the Assistant Swim Counselor! Rio is a long-time Roughing It camper with over 10 summers with us at the Reservoir! He looked forward to helping the campers improve their swimming skills and make lasting memories this summer! He helped accomplish this with his fantastic swim lessons as well as great administrative supervision over the swim counselors and swim program overall. Rio attends Cal State East Bay pursuing a degree in Music Education.
