Summer Camps at the Lafayette Reservoir | Roughing It

rowing on the res

Campers K through 4th grade learn to work together and row in unison.

Games are popular out on the water

After learning the basic rowing technique, campers play games to help improve their skills.

Rowing

Waterfront counselors teach rowing skills to younger campers. Safety on the water is the first priority, so campers learn to put on their own Personal Flotation Devices (PFDs) and board the boats properly. All campers, even campers who are non-swimmers, can participate in all boating activities. While in the boats with a staff member, campers learn the coxswain, rower and lookout positions. Once they have learned the basics, campers participate in challenges where teamwork is essential. Some skills a camper will learn at Rowing:

  • Has knowledge of rules and safety
  • Can put on Personal Floatation Device (PFD)
  • Knowledge of boat terms and parts
  • Rows with help of a partner
  • Synchronization of strokes
  • Effective Coxswain

There is a camp counselor in each rowboat

At rowing, there is always a staff member in each boat to ensure safety and accompany campers.

All rowing and waterfront staff are lifeguards

All waterfront activities are taught by our waterfront staff who are all certified lifeguards.
