Summer Camps at the Lafayette Reservoir | Roughing It

Campers are always accompanied by lifeguard certified staff in the canoes

Staff always accompany campers in boats and on the water to ensure safety.

Canoeing

Campers 2nd grade and above learn the basics of flatwater canoeing. Strokes are practiced on the dock and all campers must pass the tip-a-canoe safety challenge on land before going out in the water. Places too far to reach by rowboat are open for exploration by canoe, including small hidden coves of the reservoir that require dedicated teamwork to reach. Campers learn a variety of steering techniques and work with their fellow boatmates to complete challenges and courses designed by our staff. Some skills a camper will learn at Canoeing:

  • Has knowledge of rules and safety
  • Can put on Personal Floatation Device (PFD)
  • Forward, Backward, C, J, and Docking Strokes
  • Endurance for solo paddle
  • Obstacle Course Navigation
