About the Position

Digital Marketing Assistants manage our website and help plan, develop, and implement new content and improvements to the website. They also help in related marketing areas, including website analytics, analytics, and inbound marketing. The ideal candidate will be able to learn new tasks, systems, and tools to support our overall mission.

Roughing It Office Culture

The camp office is fast paced, team centered, and there are times when staff may be assigned to projects not related to their core duties.

Primary Duties

  • Manage and make improvements to website content, layout, and styling (WordPress)
  • Create and improve content and images that follow Roughing It messaging and “voice”
  • Improve lead generation through landing page optimization
  • Follow inbound marketing and white-hat SEO/SERP techniques
  • Website monitoring with Google Analytics
  • A/B webpage testing 
  • Adwords management
  • Local Business marketing and listing management

General Office & Customer Support Duties

All of our year-round staff participate and assist in various general office tasks to support our customer and staff recruiting efforts. Some examples of these general office tasks that we all help with are:

  • Serve as relief camp receptionist and the routing of phone calls
  • Assist in providing customer service: provide camp information to camp families and respond via email and phone to inquiries
  • Assist with camper registration
  • Organize and upkeep office/camp facilities
  • Scan, file, and organize documents
  • Assist with marketing, personnel, media, registrar, and other camp departments
  • Other general office, marketing, customer service and support tasks

Schedule

While we are flexible with the schedule, we are looking for a Marketing Assistant who can work between 12-20 hours/week at our Lafayette office. Additional hours may be available.

You may adjust your schedule within our office hours, Mondays-Fridays, 9am-5pm. 

All of our year-round positions work from the Rouging It Camp office in downtown Lafayette, which has easy access from the freeway and is a 5-minute walk from BART. Our summer office is directly across the street from the Lafayette REservoir and is a 20-minute walk from BART.

Ability to Learn & Master New Software​

Most of the tasks can be easily mastered by individuals who are comfortable with computers and general office procedures. Many of the skills can be learned on the job and should not discourage you from applying. Please feel free to apply and to discuss tasks and duties with us.

All positions require a strong knowledge of Windows-based programs and the ability to learn new computer software.

Qualifications for Marketing Assistant

  • Excellent writing and communication skills
  • Strong knowledge of Windows-based programs
  • Can to create and update web pages and blogs with WordPress (or the ability to learn)
  • Understands good user interface (UI) design and can create webpages that closely follow the “theme and style” of the website
  • Excellent phone skills
  • ability to learn new programs, including lead and camper management systems
  • Ability to perform general office duties (filing, answering the phone, word processing, copying, mailing, organizing, and other mechanics of the office)
  • Ability to work independently and accurately
  • Familiarity with Google Analytics
  • Familiarity with Adobe Photoshop or another graphical editing tool

Qualifications for All Office Staff

As an outdoor summer camp, the following general qualifications are required of all staff at Roughing It.

  • Excellent phone and email communication skills.
  • Valid driver’s license and excellent driving record. Must be able to drive Roughing It vehicles on occasional errands.
  • Ability to comply with Roughing It policies and procedures, including our Staff Dress Code and Year-Round Staff Personnel Policies
  • Lift approximately 30 pounds (whether it be equipment, boxes, files, etc.)
  • Fine motor dexterity – typing, filing papers, etc.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time (4-8 hours/day)
  • Is able to walk up the hill from the Lafayette Reservoir parking lot to the large “East Field” of the Reservoir
  • Ability to walk 1 mile on both paved and varied terrain and trails at the Lafayette Reservoir in order to work camp events year-round and/or assist during the summer season.
  • Can assist with special events outside (stand for extended periods at Open Houses and Community Fairs or be able to lead walking tours at the Lafayette Reservoir)
  • Comfortable and able to work around dogs and horses

Highly Desirable Qualifications

Experience or knowledge of the following programs is highly desirable:

  • Inbound Marketing (e.g., Hubspot)
  • WordPress Plugins (e.g., Elementor, SEOroast)
  • Front-end development skills: HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
  • Adobe Photoshop
  • Adobe Lightroom
  • Lead Management Software (e.g., SalesForce or ACT!)
  • Google Data Studio
  • Back-end development skills: PHP, MySQL, Linux
