Part-Time IT Assistant

The IT Assistant works under supervision of our IT director. The IT Assistant will also work closely with our other year-round staff to develop, maintain, and update our programs and databases.

About the Part-Time IT Assistant Position

IT Assistants are normally hired to provide assistance and support in one primary area of our organization. However, our camp office is very fast paced and there are many times when office assistants are assigned projects and responsibilities in a variety of areas.  As a result, the ideal candidate will have skills in a variety of areas and be flexible when taking on different projects.

Specific Duties

  • Assist staff members with computer applications
  • Organize computer files and systems to optimize usage
  • Conduct routine data backups of all computers
  • Install computer software programs
  • Become proficient at new computer programs
  • Instruct staff in learning new computer applications
  • Clean up company databases
  • Perform anti-virus and malware clean-up
  • Maintain computer networks (routers, switches, cabling)
  • Design reports in various company software programs
  • Produce computer generated reports from a variety of programs
  • Draft company policies and procedures concerning computer usage
  • Monitor Google AdWords and Google Analytics
  • Monitor KPI and create weekly reports
  • Maximize SEO for Roughing It website using “white hat” techniques
  • Track SEO results and implement website updates
  • Any other computer oriented duties as assigned by camp owners/directors
  • General office support
    • Serves as camp receptionist and the friendly routing of all telephone communication
    • Customer service: provide camp information to camp families and respond via email and phone to inquiries
    • Assist with camper registration
    • Organization and upkeep of office/camp facilities
    • Scan, file and organize documents
    • Assist with marketing, personnel, media, registrar, and other camp departments

Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of Windows-based programs – MS Word, MS Outlook, Internet Explorer
  • Excellent phone and email communication skills
  • Ability to perform general office duties (filing, answering the phone, word processing, copying, mailing, organizing and running all the mechanics of the office)
  • The ability to learn new programs used at Roughing It, blog programs, the Roughing It website, and lead and camper management database programs
  • Valid driver’s license and excellent driving record. Must be able to drive Roughing It vehicles on occasional errands.
  • Ability to work independently and accurately
  • Lift approximately 30 pounds (whether it be equipment, boxes, files, etc.)
  • Fine motor dexterity – typing, filing papers, etc.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time (4-8 hours/day)
  • Is able to walk up the hill from the Lafayette Reservoir parking lot to the large “East Field” of the Reservoir
  • Ability to walk 1 mile on both paved and varied terrain and trails at the Lafayette Reservoir in order to work camp events year-round and/or assist during the summer season.
  • Can assist with special events outside (stand for extended periods at Open Houses and Community Fairs or be able to lead walking tours at the Lafayette Reservoir)
  • Ability to comply with Roughing It policies and procedures, including but not limited to Staff Dress Code and Staff Personnel Policies
  • Must be comfortable and able to work around dogs and horses

Highly desirable qualifications include experience or knowledge of:

  • Visual Basic for Access
  • MS Server 2008
  • MS Web Expressions or Adobe Dreamweaver
  • HTML
  • PHP
  • MySQL or MariaDB
  • Familiarity with ACT!
  • Adobe Lightroom
  • Polycom SIP Phones
  • VPN Network Management

Ability to Master New Software and New Tasks

Most of the tasks can be easily mastered by individuals who are comfortable with computers and general office procedures. Many of the skills can be learned on the job and applicants should not be discouraged from applying because they have not worked in a specific software package. Work Schedule

While we are flexible with the schedule, we are looking for an IT Assistant who can work between 12-20 hours/week at our Lafayette office. Additional hours may be available.

You may adjust your schedule within our office hours, Mondays-Fridays, 9am-5pm. 

All of our year-round positions work from the Roughing It Camp office in Lafayette, which is conveniently located with easy access from the freeway and public transportation.
