Activities for Younger Campers

Opening Circle

Each camp day begins as the whole camp assembles together for Opening Circle with announcements, singing, and skits.

The Camp Schedule

The schedule for the rest of the day consists of less structured Group Time planned by the group counselor, and fixed scheduled activities with formal instruction for all ability levels taught by the program specialist staff.  See a Sample Schedule.

Group Time

The group counselor organizes Group Time so it is fun and appropriate for their particular campers. Traditional camp games like capture the flag, circle games, hiking, singing, lunch, quiet activities and rest time are enjoyed by campers with their friends in their own group.

Scheduled Activities

The scheduled activities include Team Sports taught in a non-competitive manner; Outdoor Education, creative nature Crafts, and Horseback Riding. At Waterfront, all campers enjoy learning to fish and row. Our Swim Director supervises the Swimming Program taught by our certified swim staff. Each camper is evaluated in their swimming ability and is placed in an appropriate group.  Many of our younger campers participate in a water readiness program and eventually begin to learn basic water skills.  Find out more about all of our camp activities.

Special Events/Activities

Our youngest campers may get the opportunity to have Special Buddies in an older camp group.  Our Kindergarten group is scheduled a day with their older CILT Buddies, while many of our younger groups are “adopted” by the older 5th grade-Junior High Groups.  These buddies design and implement games and activities providing a learning environment for everyone.  Campers are also visited by Ranch Camp’s furry friends. The Animal Care Counselor visits once a week providing the opportunity for our younger groups to learn about animals and how to care for these creatures.

Closing Circle

Each day ends with the whole camp assembling for Closing Circle with announcements, more songs, more skits and recognition of campers and groups who overcame a special challenge during the camp day. Sometimes Special Buddies will join the groups strengthening the two group’s bonds.
