Roughing It Day Camp: Little Raccoons

Some younger children may be hesitant to go straight to the full Roughing It Day Camp program. Some parents may want their younger child to have a shorter experience than the four weeks needed for participation in Roughing It Day Camp. For these families, Little Raccoons was started in 2002. Little Raccoons is an introductory camp program of two-week sessions for very young campers who are not ready for the complete experience the full Roughing It Day Camp offers. Some of the more challenging activities such as horseback riding and the all-camp overnight are not a part of their schedule—to allow for a more leisurely daily pace. After Little Raccoons, campers will be ready to join the full Roughing It Program.

For Young Campers ages 4 ½ – 7 years
Four 2-week sessions
One group for boys and girls - 4 1/2 to 7 years (Kindergarten-First grades) Some very young second graders may participate.
Transportation from central bus stops
Participate in most of the age appropriate camp activities with the exception of horseback riding lessons, canoeing, and the all camp overnight.
2 - weeks sessions can be an option for young children who are not sure about coming to the full Day Camp. They may be more comfortable starting with this introductory program.

Caring, Experienced, All Adult Staff

The major reason for Roughing It's continued success at providing a safe, supportive camp environment is our outstanding all adult staff. We select staff because of their maturity, character, experience and ability to relate to and inspire young children. In addition to the group counselors, we also have our own program specialty staff who instruct at each of the program areas and year around camp administrators on the campsite each day. Our overall camper to counselor ratio is 4:1.

Safety

The health and safety of each camper is the primary concern of each Roughing It staff member. Supervision of campers by staff is ALWAYS constant. All our staff are certified in /First Aid and CPR, and receive additional training in safety and health procedures during the week of staff orientation. All swim and waterfront staff are certified lifeguards.

Transportation

Roughing It offers "Pick Up Spot" service for campers enrolled as Little Raccoons. Pick up is between 8:00 - 9:00 am and drop off is between 3:00 - 4:00 pm. Learn more about transportation for Little Raccoons in the transportation section of our website.
