Camp Critters News: Winter 2003
All of the camp animals have been very busy this year. Here's what all your favorite camp animal friends have been up to…
Being a camp dog is a tough job, but somebody's got to do it! I take my duties seriously, even after camp has ended. I helped out during MiniCamp, and even brought a watermelon for my birthday! For Halloween, I greeted trick-or-treaters. Lately I've been making sure things are running smoothly in the office and that there is always a tennis ball around. I am helping my new friend Kobe "the Camp Dog in Training” learn some new tricks to use when she starts puppy school this winter.
All the horses went back to their winter home in Chowchilla, California where they are enjoying the green mountain pastures and resting up for next summer.
The oldest and youngest horses from the Moraga Horse Site have some exciting news for winter. Peanuts, a twenty-year Roughing It veteran, has moved to Lodi for the winter. He is staying with a family there, and he will be doing what he loves to do at Roughing It: teach children to ride. Between his brushings and feedings, he will be ridden during lessons for the grandson of his new babysitter.
One of Roughing It's foals is really growing up. Aladdin is spending his winter at the UC Davis Equestrian Center with Solange, the Riding Director from Day Camp 2002. They have been riding together since the end of camp, and Alladin is a very happy horse. Solange reports that he is used to seeing cows and goats on the trails they ride, but seeing llamas still startles him a bit.
All of the animals from Ranch Camp went back to their Four-H families for the winter, and they're being well taken-care of. The goats have a lot of company these days, on their winter goat farm. The ducks and chickens are all in warm and dry places, too! Next summer, make sure to watch for Dizzie, Misty's new bunny. Dizzie is white, black, and brown, and got her name because she likes to run around in circles.
Well that about sums up I'm always happy to see campers and look forward to seeing all my friends back at camp for summer 2003!
