In Memory of the Little Horse that Could: Peanuts
1972-2005
 |
Peanuts enjoyed a full life at Roughing It. He was one of the first horses we purchased when we
started our riding program in 1982. In his prime he could: jump to
any height, perform perfect equitation gaits in the ring, ride in
pairs, go on any trail for hours; vault with 2-3 riders on his back,
play broom polo. He could be used in the advanced arena with Junior
High riders; and the next period be used in the beginner ring with
kindergarteners, and always give his riders a safe and wonderful
ride. |
| Peanuts was gentle and loved to nuzzle campers when they came
to untie him. He did not have a mean bone in his body, but he
did have lots of tricks up his sleeve. He was a wizard at untying
himself and his best horse-friend when tethered to the fence.
Peanuts could open any gate (if staff forgot to chain it) and let
himself (and friends) out of his paddock. His favorite trick was
climbing under or over the bobbed wire fence to get into the hay

Peanuts lead a full life at Roughing It and we
are proud of his accomplishments! He was well loved by
horses and people alike and will be greatly missed by our campers,
staff, and the Woods family. |
| So here’s to you Peanuts! Thanks for 23 years
of loving service to our camp! Happy Trails! |

“Somewhere…Somewhere in time’s own Space
There must be some sweet pastured place
Where creeks sing on and tall trees grow
Some Paradise where horses go,
For by the love that guides my pen,
I know great horses live again.”
By Stanley Harrison, The Quotable Horse Lover
