Moraga Horse Reviews
Our campers and staff have provided reviews of their favorite horses.  We asked them a variety of questions from "What is your favorite thing to do with this horse" and "Does this horse have a special talent" to "If this horse were a person and had a hobby, what would it be?"  They gave us a variety of wonderful answers and we have put them together for everyone to see.  Enjoy!

  • Minx
Minx is a horse who always gives her all.  She is enthusiastic and energetic, but likes to have help from her rider and work as a team.  Minx is great at teaching her riders that even if they don't think they can accomplish something, if they work together with their horse, anything is possible.  Her favorite things to do are jump, canter, and hangout at the water trough.  If Minx were a person, she would probably be a horseback rider.

  • Timmy

Timmy is a happy and enthusiastic horse who listens well to his riders and doesn’t go too fast or too slow.  As a result, he is a favorite among our campers as a game horse and on the trail where he is a fantastic leader.  When he is not being ridden, he loves to eat and be petted.  He is great at teaching our campers how to keep their balance and how to focus while riding.  As a favorite of many of our campers, he has received many lanyards as gifts that he wears with pride on his bridle to show off how well he connects with his riders.  He even helped one of our campers, Ayako, get Camper of the Day at Riding because he listened so well to all of her aids.  If Timmy was a person, his hobby would be helping people or spending time with kids.

  • Rupert
Rupert is a friendly horse who always seems to know just the right speed to make his rider comfortable.  He has a great trot and canter, and is a talented jumper.  Riding Rupert is a great way to learn to steer since he is very responsive and listens well.  Our campers say that he is proud, patient, hard-working, and trustworthy.  He loves to drink water, eat, and be ridden by our campers.  If he were a person, Rupert would probably like to eat and swim.  Rupert even helped one of our campers with her homework.  Dora wrote a story about him in which he flew all over Oakland, and she got an A!

  • Doc
Doc is a horse who likes to take it easy, but if you can get him excited, he has a lot of get up and go.  Some campers might be surprised to know that Doc has a big jump and loves to go out on trail.  Doc has a funny, laid back personality, and if he were a person his favorite hobbies would probably be exactly what they are now; eating and sleeping!

  • Spot

Spot is a big eater who is very exciting to ride.  He is a great jumper and partner for games on horseback, but he is also a good friend.  He is particularly good at teaching campers steering and focusing.  He has a funny personality, and if he were a person, his hobbies would be eating and running.

Campers and staff who reviewed this horse: Maddy, Julia

  • Aladdin
Aladdin is one of our younger horses, and he is very spunky and fun.  He has started to learn dressage and really enjoys the training and the team work involved.  He is also a great jumper and very responsive to signals from his riders.  He loves to snuggle, be groomed, and has a secret love of French fries (even though we do not encourage it!)  When he isn't in training for dressage, Aladdin loves to go out on trail.  His special talent is that he is an escape artist and can untie almost any knot by himself.  If he were a person, he would be athletic and would love to play practical jokes on people.

  • Chocolate
Chocolate is a hard-working, trusty, and gentle horse who campers love for her smooth trot and because she is just a great horse!  She has taught our campers balance, team work, and focusing.  She loves to go on trail, eat, be patted, and splash in the water trough.  In fact, she loves to splash around so much that if she were a person, her hobby would probably be swimming (and eating of course).

  • Two Story
Two Story gets his name from his size, but in addition to his stature, he is known by our campers as a loving, gentle, and trustworthy horse who listens well.  He is a great game horse, and has taught many of our campers the importance of patience when riding and how to connect with a horse.  A lot of our campers have had new experiences on Two Story, like trotting or jumping for the first time.  He even helped one of our campers overcome her fear of horses and she went on to win our Camper of the Session award for riding.  Even though Erin is a staff member now, she still has his golden horseshoe on her wall.  Some of Two Story's favorite things to do are to be ridden by our campers, go on trail, eat, jump, and have a bath.  One of his special talents is that he can untie a lead rope.  It seems to be a general consensus that Two Story would be an athlete if he were a person.  Some campers think he would run track because he likes to move while others think he would be a basketball star because of his size.

  • Ollie
Ollie is one of our best jumpers and a great horse for learning how to stay focused and in control while riding.  He has taught many of our campers the importance of balanced riding, proper steering, focusing, and team work.  He is just plain sweet, and lots of fun to be around, even if it is just while grooming or leading him.  He is funny, enthusiastic, and loving, and enjoys both working and hanging out with our campers.  If Ollie were a person, his hobby would probably be relaxing.

  • Cocoa
Cocoa is usually our trusty vaulting horse at the Moraga site, but she is also a great horse to ride.  Our campers love to take her on trail, and she has a very smooth canter.  She is funny and proud, and loves to eat.  If she were a person, Cocoa would probably be a philosopher.

  • May
May is a sweet mare who is lots of fun to ride.  She is patient, gentle, and trustworthy, especially on trail.  She is a good jumper who has helped a lot of our campers develop their jumping and cantering skills.  She also has quite the appetite and eating after a day of camp is one of her favorite things to do.

Campers and staff who reviewed this horse: Rebecca

  • Fanny
Fanny is easy to pick out with her white face.  She is great on the trail and very sure footed.  She is enthusiastic about her job as a camp horse and has helped our campers learn many skills, from how to ride up and down hills to how to communicate with their horse.  As one of our campers said, "She was a good hearted, kind horse and she was very special and didn't go too fast and didn't go too slow".  Our campers love Fanny because she is just right.

Campers and staff who reviewed this horse: Jamie

  • Zack
Zack is a very trustworthy horse who has taught our campers many skills, from trotting to team-work.  He is gentle, patient, and hard-working.  Zack loves to be ridden and is a great listener who works well with his rider.  If he were a person and had a hobby, he would probably like to run or listen to music.  We don't know why exactly, it just seems like Zack.

Campers and staff who reviewed this horse: Clare, Andrea

  • Davy
Davy is a great pony who is up for anything and has a very resourceful personality.  He always helps out new riders by listening well and working together with them as a team.  He is gentle, patient, trustworthy, and hard-working.  When he isn't being ridden, he loves to spend time with campers while he is being groomed, patted, and fed.

Campers and staff who reviewed this horse: Amy

  • Diamond
Diamond is a hard-working mare with a lot of get-up-and-go.  She is a great jumper with a very smooth trot who teaches our campers the importance of teamwork.  She is very responsive and listens well to the commands of her riders.  When she is not jumping and playing games, she loves to be patted.  If Diamond were a person, her special talent would be her ability to love everyone.

Campers and staff who reviewed this horse: Ksusha, Abby

  • Bella
Bella is always ready to go and to work as a team, whether her rider is a new, inexperienced rider or has lots of experience.  She is very in tune to her rider and responds well to their cues.  Because she listens so carefully, she is very good at teaching campers to listen to her as well.  Campers love cantering and jumping with Bella, but she is equally as fun to groom, pet, and play games with.  She is friendly, gentle, funny, enthusiastic, and hard working.  Her trustworthy nature has endeared her to many of our campers and most don’t want to get off at the end of their lesson!  If Bella was a person, she would be adventurous and outgoing.
