Ranch Day Camp

Western & Trail Riding in Lafayette - Full Day Program - Grades 3rd to 10th


Ranch Camp is Roughing It's latest edition to our popular two-week horse camp programs. It is designed for campers who want to gain experience in western riding on our 116 acre ranch in Lafayette. Campers are separated into groups based on their ability level from beginner to advanced. Our ranch is surrounded by Briones Regional Park with access to over 6000 acres of trails. Campers spend a full day participating in unique and fun ranch activities.

Activities

  • Trail riding on 116 acres of our ranch
    Learn the technical needed to safely and properly ride on the trails.
  • Lessons in western riding
    Learn different Western riding disciplines from beginner to advanced levels in skills such as neck reining, jogging, loping, and proper riding position.
  • Horsemanship activities
    Campers learn the skills needed to properly care for a horse. Horsemanship activities include tacking and untacking, grooming, nutrition, anatomy, and basic horse first-aid.
  • Gymkhana events
    Campers practice skills they have obtained by participating in events such as barrel racing, pole bending, and relay races.
  • Ranch Chores and Animal Care
    Each day campers are given tasks to learn how to maintain a working Ranch. Campers learn how to feed the horses and farm animals, clean the paddocks, and how to compost.
  • Western Activities
    Campers participate in many fun activities such as roping, learning basic rodeo skills, and creating western crafts.

Campers often practice their roping with some help from Max, the camp dog.

 

 

Daily chores, like cleaning the paddocks, are part of the camp day.

Location
1251 Pleasant Hill Road, Lafayette CA (across from Acalanes High School)

Time
9am to 3pm Monday through Friday.

Transportation:
