Horse Day Camp
English Riding in Moraga - Full Day Program - Grades 3rd to 10th
Horse Day Camp has been our premiere 2-week riding program for over 20 years. It was
modeled after our popular day camp riding program and is designed to teach
the disciplines of English riding from beginner to advanced levels for
riders. Riders spend a full day learning to ride and properly care for a horse as if
it were their very own. Riders receive two 40-minute lessons each day and
build basic to advanced English Riding skills. Additional riding activities
include vaulting and games like capture the flag on horseback. Riders
spend time not only in the arena but also on our cross country course and
pasture riding trail.
Activities
- English Riding Lessons
- Campers learn and practice different English riding disciplines such as
Hunt Seat and Dressage. Many skills such as 2-point position, jumping, and
cantering are taught and practiced in riding games and formal riding
lessons.
- Vaulting
- Campers have one lesson a day learning "gymnastics on horseback”.
Vaulting is an excellent way for campers to build confidence at the walk,
trot, and canter.
- Horsemanship -
Horsemanship activities teach campers how to care for a horse and include
grooming, tacking, horse first-aid, nutrition, and anatomy
- Cross Country Course
- Once campers have accomplished their basic riding skills, instructors allow them to go out on our open
pasture cross country course. Campers expand on their riding skills and
learn how to navigate the jumps riding in open pasture.
- Barn Chores
- Campers learn how to keep a stable in proper running order and participate in chores such as cleaning
paddocks, tack, brushes, and buckets as well as feeding the horses and barn
maintenance.
- Gymkhana
Campers practice their riding skills through relays, games and other fun
horse back activities.
- Additional Riding Activities - Campers enjoy additional riding activities such as going on pasture trail rides, schooling horses on
the cross-country course, and going on a mock fox hunt!
