Staff Positions
Head Waterfront Counselor
The Head Waterfront Counselor should have experience teaching and organizing
lessons and activities in fishing, rowing, canoeing, and kayaking. It is beneficial for the
head waterfront director to have worked, and become familiar with our organization
through previous employment, or through other camp experiences. It is the
responsibility of the head waterfront counselor to oversee the entire waterfront program
and assist staff in preparing the waterfront curriculum for fishing, rowing, canoeing,
and kayaking. The head waterfront counselor is also required to complete written
evaluations of staff and campers, and will be asked to accompany and supervise
campers on bus routes for our day camp and camp plus programs as needed.

Assistant Head Waterfront Counselor
The Assistant Head Waterfront Counselor should have experience teaching and
organizing lessons and activities in rowing, canoeing, kayaking, and especially fishing.
It is also recommended that the assistant head waterfront counselor have prior
experience supervising staff, and would benefit from having been employed by Roughing
It before. The assistant head waterfront counselor will assist in all areas of the
waterfront, and also directs a daily, after camp fishing program for up to 16 campers.
Other duties of the assistant head waterfront counselor include assisting the head
waterfront counselor in supervising staff and helping to create challenging and fun
activities at the waterfront for campers of all ages and abilities. The assistant head
waterfront counselor will also complete written evaluations of staff and campers, and
will be asked to accompany and supervise campers on bus routes for our day camp
and camp plus programs as needed.

Canoeing Counselor
The Canoeing Counselor should be a safe, strong, confident canoeist with a good
understanding of canoe strokes, and other related boating knowledge. The canoeing
counselor is responsible for creating and implementing age appropriate canoe lessons
and activities, for campers. The canoeing counselor is also required to complete written
evaluations of all campers who participate in the canoeing program, and will assist
other counselors in the rowing, kayaking and fishing curriculums.

Fishing Counselor
The Fishing Counselor must have a positive outlook on the sport of fishing, and should
be a knowledgeable fisherperson. The fishing counselor works with campers of all ages,
and is responsible for implementing and supervising the fishing program. S/he will help
in planning new activities for the fishing curriculum, and should be prepared to
complete written evaluations on all campers. The fishing counselor will also assist in
other areas of the waterfront, including rowing, canoeing and kayaking.

Rowing Counselor
The Rowing Counselor is responsible for creating and implementing age appropriate
rowing lessons, and will plan fun, challenging activities for campers of all ages. The
rowing counselor should be a safe, strong, confident rower with a good understanding

to complete written evaluations of all campers who participate in rowing, and will assist
other counselors in the canoeing, kayaking and fishing curriculums.

Kayaking Counselor
The Kayaking Counselor will work with campers who have little or no experience in
kayaks. S/he must have prior experience kayaking, and should have an excellent
understanding of strokes, and other related skills and knowledge. The kayaking
counselor will create and implement a kayaking curriculum for campers that will focus
on age appropriate activities while considering the wide range of camper abilities. The
kayaking counselor will complete written evaluations of all campers who participate in
kayaking, and will assist other counselors in the rowing, canoeing, and fishing
programs.

Assistant Waterfront Counselor
The Assistant Waterfront Counselor assists in all areas of the waterfront, and helps to
plan and teach activities for the fishing, rowing, canoeing and kayaking programs. This

least, a basic knowledge of all waterfront activities we offer at Roughing It.
