SWIM POSITIONS

Head Swim Counselor

The Head Swim Counselor should have experience teaching and organizing swim programs for children of all ages and abilities, and would definitely benefit from having worked, and become familiar with our organization through previous employment. It is the responsibility of the head swim counselor to oversee the entire swimming program, plan the swimming curriculum, supervise staff, and assist in managing and maintaining the pool site. The head swim counselor is also required to complete written evaluations of staff and campers, and will be asked to accompany and supervise campers on bus routes for our day camp and camp plus programs as needed.
Pre-requisites:
  • Minimum age 21
  • ARC Lifeguard Training and WSI Certifications
  • Excellent Driving Record

Assistant Head Swim Counselor

The Assistant Head Swim Counselor should have experience teaching and organizing swimming lessons for children of all ages and abilities. It is also recommended that the assistant head swim counselor have prior experience supervising staff, and would benefit from having been employed by Roughing It before. The assistant head swim counselor is a swim instructor, and also directs a daily after camp program for up to 18 campers. Other duties of the assistant head swim counselor include assisting the head swim counselor in supervising staff and helping to maintain and manage the pool site. The assistant head swim counselor will also complete written evaluations of staff and campers, and will be asked to accompany and supervise campers on bus routes for our day camp and camp plus programs as needed.

  • ARC Lifeguard Training Certification, WSI Certification recommended

Swim Counselors

Roughing It hires several Swim Counselors to work with our campers, and prefer that swim counselors have a strong aquatic background. Swim counselors should be comfortable enough with their own swimming abilities, to be able to effectively teach campers the basic stroke patterns as well as more advanced techniques and other aquatic activities (diving, water polo, and synchronized swimming). Experience teaching swim lessons and creating beginner to advanced lesson plans is helpful.
Pre-requisites:
  • Minimum age 18, and completed first year of college (or equivalent)
  • ARC Lifeguard Training Certification, WSI Certification recommended
  • Excellent Driving Record
$345-370/week
43 hours/week

Lifeguards

Roughing It will sometimes hire additional lifeguards to assist in guarding duties at our swimming pool. All of our swimming staff/counselors are certified lifeguards, and generally fulfill supervision and lifeguarding duties during the camp day. Support staff lifeguards will usually work on an on-call basis as needed, and may be asked to work various days and hours, including some weekends.
