Pay and Benefits

Roughing It prides itself on being one of the highest paying summer camps in the country. Staff are given a fixed weekly salary and receive complete season and performance bonuses if they complete their work commitment at Roughing It. Returning staff receive progressively higher salaries and a substantial increase in their performance bonus. Salaries are listed with individual job descriptions in the staff positions section of this website.

Salaries

The majority of Roughing It's Seasonal Staff receive a weekly salary. These salaries have been carefully calculated and are based on many factors. Each position at Roughing It demands different duties, experience, level of responsibility, certifications, and time commitment. The amount staff are paid for specific positions is a direct reflection of job requirements and the factors mentioned above.

Beyond weekly salaries, some staff will receive a complete season bonus and/or a performance bonus after the summer season has ended. There are certain requirements and expectations that need to be met in order to receive these bonuses. Complete Season Bonus

Staff who work the entire summer season at Roughing It, including staff training, and who fulfill their entire commitment in accordance with the terms outlined on their signed work agreement, may receive a complete season bonus. First year staff receive $150 for completing the season and returning staff receive up to $250.

Members of Support Staff and Part-Time employees do not receive complete season bonuses. Staff members who begin work with Roughing It after the season has begun (after the first day of staff training) may not be eligible to receive a complete season bonus.

Performance Bonus

Staff who complete the entire season with Roughing It, and uphold their commitments agreed upon in their work agreement, will be eligible to receive a performance bonus. The performance bonus ranges from $100 - $300 for first year staff and increases significantly for returning staff, up to $1000 for the second year. Performance bonuses are paid to staff who have completed the summer season and who have done an exceptional job while working at Roughing It. Payout of performance bonuses is completely at the discretion of the owners/directors and will not be awarded in its entirety (or at all) to staff who do a less than outstanding job.
