Day Camp Riding is an integral part of the Roughing It Day Camp program.
Campers develop riding and horsemanship skills in classes geared to individual ability levels. Each group rides one to three times a week, depending on age. Campers are divided into riding groups by ability beginning with horse readiness for the novice rider and progressing to advanced lessons for the more experienced riders. Riding is on bareback pads, which greatly improves the camper's balance and riding seat. Our horses have very gentle dispositions and easily win the hearts of campers.
Horse Day Camp has been our premiere 2-week riding program for over 20 years. It was modeled after our popular day camp riding program and is designed to teach the disciplines of English riding from beginner to advanced levels. Campers spend a full day learning to ride and properly care for a horse as if it were their very own. Riders receive two 40-minute lessons each day and build basic to advanced English Riding skills. Additional riding activities include vaulting and games like capture the flag on horseback.. Campers spend time not only in the arena but also on our cross country course and pasture riding trail.
Ranch Camp is Roughing It's latest edition to our popular two-week horse camp programs. It is designed for campers who want to gain experience in western riding on our 116 acre ranch in Lafayette. Campers are separated into groups based on their ability level from beginner to advanced. Our ranch is surrounded by Briones Regional Park with access to over 6000 acres of trails. Campers spend a full day participating in unique and fun ranch activities.
